00:04 Speaker A: You stop.

00:05 Speaker B: I'm pushing buttons because I'm wearing I push a button shirt, and you won't let me push the other button because you're afraid. He's afraid, people. He's afraid that if I push the button on the podcast, it'll mess things up. Now that I know I'm not a push.

00:20 Speaker A: I'm not afraid of you at all.

00:21 Speaker B: He's not afraid of me. He's afraid of whatever the system will do because know exactly. I had computer Have. Have issues. What. Oh. What are you doing over there today, dude?

00:32 Speaker A: What is this region of superheroes number two? I already read it today. Yeah, we're recording. Maybe on the day this comes out.

00:38 Speaker B: Maybe the day that it comes out, he's already shotgunned the thing and sent me screencaps of. Of pictures from the comic as he's been reading it.

00:47 Speaker A: Yes. Spoiler. If you've not read this, Grimbor makes an appearance in the book.

00:50 Speaker B: Grimbor, one of our favorite characters here on the funny boar forensics podcast. Grimbor. What's he doing? Is he holding.

00:58 Speaker A: He's holding chains. What else he's holding? It's the chance. Juliet is very upset. I don't know what's going on here in the house. The was instantly jealous. No, I thought we should add a new segment. So we've done putting posters in. In frames. Posters and frames done, yes. We've done posters and frames. We've done cards and sleeves. So I thought we should do comics in bags.

01:29 Speaker B: Comics in bags?

01:31 Speaker A: Yeah. Well, I mean, this is a show about comic collecting, fandom, and so what greater joy does anybody get than putting comics in bags?

01:39 Speaker B: Comics and bags, people. He's putting comics in bags as we do this is. He's going to. He's going to bag and board all the books that he bought this week.

01:50 Speaker A: Well, I had a bunch come today.

01:52 Speaker B: He had a bunch. Yeah. He's got to take care of them after he's read them and put them in there. If I have to hear that all show, I'm gonna. I am. I am gonna just. I'm gonna click the button to stop.

02:09 Speaker A: I can't stop. I gotta fit the comics over here. Make sure.

02:12 Speaker B: Oh, my gosh, people.

02:14 Speaker A: That's the best noise, isn't it? Sealable bags are the best, aren't they?

02:17 Speaker B: I mean, I don't know. Some people enjoy that noise. They enjoy peeling the. The. The. The plastic off the. The thing, the film, whatever it is. I know. Like Anna and I, whenever we get patrol number two, I'm doing patrol Number two.

02:32 Speaker A: Oh, wow.

02:34 Speaker B: I know. We. We fight over who gets to peel the thing. That is pretty cool. I like it. I like it.

02:42 Speaker A: I like all of the. I didn't buy te the new t Titans book. Well, let me rephrase it. I buy the new Teen Titans book, but I bought Doom Patrol, and I bought Legion, and I guess I should have bought the Teen Titans book because all three books got a second. Second printing.

02:57 Speaker B: Oh, wow.

02:58 Speaker A: All the new books released in September for D.C. got a second printing.

03:01 Speaker B: That's pretty impressive.

03:03 Speaker A: Yeah, I think so. So either comic book stores need to buy more comics or. Or the books are all really good, or both.

03:16 Speaker B: People like those books, and I don't know, man.

03:21 Speaker A: Put them in bags, people.

03:23 Speaker B: If you like the sounds that Dan makes when he's doing the show. Don't. Don't even let us know. I don't want to know.

03:31 Speaker A: I don't let us know.

03:32 Speaker B: I don't want to know if you find this enjoyable, because it's driving me crazy, and this is me driving Dan crazy.

03:40 Speaker A: I've still got nine tickets to Grit City Comic Con to give away. That may change by the end of this week. But nine tickets. If you comment that you love putting bags in comics or comics and bags, not bags and comics. That would be backwards.

03:53 Speaker B: If you put comics into bags. Wait. Bags into comics.

03:57 Speaker A: If you put that you love putting comics into bags in the chat, then I will give you a ticket to Grid City comic con on November 7th.

04:06 Speaker B: But if you already have a ticket, don't comment because you can't get another.

04:09 Speaker A: Or just. Or just tell me. You can. You can still comment. Just. You can comment on a ticket, but.

04:14 Speaker B: Yeah, but, I mean, we don't want to be like, oh, hey, this person's collected, like, 100 tickets. I mean, we don't even have 100 tickets to give. We only have nine.

04:22 Speaker A: Oh, look how on point Batman of two worlds. We've got beefy Batman and regular Batman. Oh, who will win one cover?

04:29 Speaker B: What are they gonna do?

04:31 Speaker A: Who would win?

04:32 Speaker B: Who would win?

04:34 Speaker A: Beefy Batman.

04:35 Speaker B: Beefy Batman. Of course.

04:36 Speaker A: He's younger.

04:36 Speaker B: What. What are they. I mean, what would they. Are they gonna talk about fighting crime? Are they gonna eat a steak together? Are they gonna talk about social injustices and how to fix them?

04:47 Speaker A: I don't think Beefy Batman eats steak. I think he eats ground turkey and rice.

04:51 Speaker B: I. I think he's a very. He's. He's very conscious of what he eats. I think he's. He's one of those people, um.

04:58 Speaker A: Much like myself, I think he can't afford steak.

05:01 Speaker B: Oh, that's true. That, I mean, but, but I mean, you know, he's, he's very conscious, conscientious too, but he's like maximizing the protein intake that he's getting. And he's like, okay, what's going to give me the best bang for my buck if I'm only getting, if I can only afford this type of thing? Turkey's a great thing.

05:19 Speaker A: He's doing what I'm going to do. I bought three pounds of ground turkey. I'm going to mix it with a bunch of rice and 10 eggs and put it all together and eat on it all week.

05:26 Speaker B: That's, you know, I, my neighbor, he cooked up a bunch of chicken and then I took said chicken that he cooked and that he brought over. And then I took that chicken and I boiled it down. I like threw it into the, into the pot and I, I cooked it off again, made a nice broth, peeled off all the, peeled it off all the bones and then I, I meal planned it out so that I had all that and then I took the broth. Oh, nice. What is that?

05:54 Speaker A: Altcover.

05:55 Speaker B: Oh, very cool.

05:56 Speaker A: Saturn Girl cover for. Well, she's not Saturn Girl yet. Yeah, Princess Ardine cover.

06:01 Speaker B: Princess Ardine. Very cool.

06:04 Speaker A: She's now a princess, apparently.

06:05 Speaker B: Ah, princess. Well, she might like the, the rice that I made with the broth that I had and then I took the broth and put rice in it and then I cooked that rice off and then I threw some veg in there and then had my, my protein and my rice and my vegetables and I'm ready to go.

06:24 Speaker A: Well, you had that. I have in the crock pot one small brisket, a parsnip, carrots, celery, four yellow potatoes, beef bone broth, regular broth. Yeah. And it has been cooking in the crock pot all day. So when we're done, that's what you're going to go ahead and have that. We've got another Legion of Superheroes cover. This time we have one Tenzel Chem, sometimes known as Matter Eater Lad. Matter Eater something. As you can see, that's what he does. Joshua Williamson, by the way, is doing an amazing job with that character.

07:08 Speaker B: Yeah.

07:08 Speaker A: And they've even buffed the powers up like the whole eat anything. But then they're like, they're also like, they have heightened agility. All the people from the planet Bismol. Which makes sense because if you have to get to your food, then.

07:21 Speaker B: Yeah, well, I mean, if you got. If you got a stomach ache, diarrhea, indigestion, Pepto Bismol is what you need. And.

07:29 Speaker A: Yeah, and they said they have to kill them on site.

07:32 Speaker B: Oh, my gosh.

07:34 Speaker A: If they bite you. Yeah, yeah, you gotta.

07:38 Speaker B: That's why you need the Pepto Bismol.

07:40 Speaker A: I don't need Anne judging me and being mad at me because I bought every single Legion cover. But.

07:47 Speaker B: But if you.

07:48 Speaker A: If.

07:48 Speaker B: I mean, you know, if I did.

07:51 Speaker A: That one is really cool.

07:52 Speaker B: That is really cool.

07:53 Speaker A: Okay, if I did happen to buy

07:55 Speaker B: every cover, that is pretty cool.

07:58 Speaker A: Well, usually we give you an update on comic books from the past, but

08:02 Speaker B: today, Today is nothing but comic books from now.

08:05 Speaker A: Today you're getting, like, what came out in the last couple weeks, which is. Is different. The. And, you know, of course, down here on the tablet today, I can give you some updates on the. The Rays and the Guardians, if you'd like.

08:18 Speaker B: Oh. Oh, the Raising. The Guardians. What. What is going on?

08:21 Speaker A: Who's winning, Dan, at zero to zero in the first.

08:25 Speaker B: Zero to zero in the first. Who are we?

08:27 Speaker A: Who.

08:28 Speaker B: Who do we want?

08:29 Speaker A: That's the question. Well, we want the Seattle Pilots to win, and they're up 2 to 0 against the Dodgers right now. Okay, so for those of you not aware, the Milwaukee brewers started out in Seattle, and if. For those of you that are unaware, no team that has started out in Seattle has ever won the World Series. So since the Mariners were abysmal and terrible, I believe the consensus is that we root for the Brewers. I mean, Pilots.

09:02 Speaker B: Pilots. Yeah. Yeah, we. We root for the Brewers. That's who we're going for.

09:06 Speaker A: Plus, everyone hates the Dodgers, so them.

09:10 Speaker B: You know, it's really sad. I mean, like, I, I. That's a good cover. If I, if, if my grandma was still alive, we would be a Dodger's house. But I'll go Brewers. I mean, I'll go Brewers because.

09:21 Speaker A: Well, that's just because of Shohei.

09:23 Speaker B: That's. That Shohei. But he's. I mean, he's. He's not as powerful as he used to be. He's not as good as he was.

09:29 Speaker A: He's not pitching, and he only hit 30 home runs this year.

09:32 Speaker B: Yeah, he's not. He's not doing what he used to do.

09:34 Speaker A: He's hurt.

09:35 Speaker B: He's hurt, and he's like, he needs to heal.

09:37 Speaker A: He struck out, like, 34 times in the last month or something like that.

09:41 Speaker B: He needs a rest, but it's a

09:43 Speaker A: bad time for a rest.

09:44 Speaker B: Yeah, it's a bad time for a rest. But, you know, Brewers, I. I remember when I. Back in the early 2000s, when I lived in the. The Wisconsin. Oh, geez. When I lived in Wisconsin area. I hate that sound. When I lived in the Wisconsin area or Wisconsin.

10:03 Speaker A: This is ending soon, sadly. Yeah. GSA Jeff Lemire got bored

10:10 Speaker B: going to a Brewers game.

10:11 Speaker A: It's pretty cool.

10:12 Speaker B: Yeah.

10:13 Speaker A: Okay. I would go to a Brewers game. Oh, hey, this is perfect timing. Very likely in the next two weeks. Possibly. We just have to clear the schedule, make sure it's still good.

10:27 Speaker B: Yeah.

10:27 Speaker A: But we are very likely going to have a special guest next week.

10:30 Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Next week upon my return.

10:34 Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.

10:36 Speaker B: I'm going. Oh, yes. I have a package going to him. Jonah X is out. I got to get to the shop.

10:44 Speaker A: Somebody has not got. Yeah, you haven't gotten the first two Legion issues, which is going to.

10:49 Speaker B: I know, I know. I'm just. I. I know what I'm doing tomorrow,

10:54 Speaker A: so for sure, I just tell everybody. The Legion book is so good. It's got me excited to pick up a comic book and peel it out of the box when they get sent to me and read it again and

11:05 Speaker B: read it and again. Now you're going to be peeling it out of your bags and boards and you're going to hear that sound.

11:16 Speaker A: I mean, look, what's more satisfactory? What's more satisfying, Right?

11:21 Speaker B: Yeah.

11:22 Speaker A: Hearing the maga. Right. Backtrack on James Talarico being in a mental facility or me pulling that thread.

11:32 Speaker B: Well, I mean, it's not as loud as it used to be since the. All those data centers went down, but, hey,

11:41 Speaker A: that's fair. What do we have here? Star Trek Halloween.

11:47 Speaker B: Oh, that's cool. We like that on the holodeck. Is it on the hol. Do they.

11:53 Speaker A: I don't know. I haven't read it yet.

11:55 Speaker B: I just got it, and then he

11:56 Speaker A: put it in a bag. Well, I'm going to read it later. I'm just taking care of things right now.

12:01 Speaker B: You had to seal it now.

12:04 Speaker A: That's what you do when you get comics. Just ask Brody.

12:07 Speaker B: It's true. It's true. It's what you do. Brody knows.

12:10 Speaker A: Yeah, Brody knows.

12:12 Speaker B: It's. It's funny. Like when I used to. When. When Paula had the shop, and I would go up there and they would be like, do you want a bag and board? I'm like, no, I'm just to destroy this thing. I'm going to go home and destroy it. And they would just cringe. Like, I would Just take the. Take whatever books like they. That I'd be buying. I just grabbed my stack and I was like, here's my money. Take my. Take my bills. What's. Oh, Green Lantern.

12:35 Speaker A: Absolute Green Lantern. So we have to have absolute. For everybody.

12:39 Speaker B: You got to. Yeah, I just grab my books and I would just be like, I'm just gonna. I. I'm gonna just grab them and I'm gonna read them all, and they're just gonna be in a jacked up pile.

12:50 Speaker A: I'm gonna unbag a book.

12:52 Speaker B: Oh, he's gonna unbag a book. Oh, he's gonna unbag a book, folks. Oh, gosh, the crinkly sound. Like

13:03 Speaker A: absolute Batman number five. We're gonna talk about that in, like a couple minutes.

13:07 Speaker B: It's true. We are. We are.

13:08 Speaker A: I'm gonna unbag another book and you're gonna be sad.

13:11 Speaker B: What are you unbagging? He's. He's not going to show me. He's going to. I just. I take it. Take his time to unbag this. He's doing this on purpose, folks. He's doing it so slow. It's like when. When you're hungry and somebody's like, hey, do you want to have a piece of this KitKat bar? And they take it out really slow. Oh, yeah, yeah.

13:37 Speaker A: Be sad.

13:38 Speaker B: I am sad. It's a good book, though.

13:41 Speaker A: It's called the. Can you read it?

13:46 Speaker B: The most Keith Giffen book about Keith Giffen for Keith Giffen fans. Yes, I believe that.

13:55 Speaker A: Should we open this one up?

14:00 Speaker B: Are you pulling it out of there? Hermetic seal?

14:04 Speaker A: Yeah.

14:05 Speaker B: Oh, it was sealed and then put in a bag and then sealed again.

14:11 Speaker A: So maybe we should read something out of here soon. We've read something out of here actually.

14:14 Speaker B: We have already, but. But we should be.

14:16 Speaker A: Definitely. We've read things out of here on the podcast, but we should.

14:20 Speaker B: It's time again to revisit something from the master himself, one of the masters.

14:26 Speaker A: There's the heckler and.

14:28 Speaker B: Oh, very cool.

14:29 Speaker A: Ambush bug on the inside.

14:31 Speaker B: I mean, you've. You've sent me on a task. I might be doing something similar.

14:37 Speaker A: I don't know. You might be getting this book when you go pick up the other comic books.

14:40 Speaker B: Yeah, maybe so. Maybe so.

14:43 Speaker A: The. Yeah, It's.

14:45 Speaker B: If they don't have it there, then I'm sure I'll find someplace that does.

14:49 Speaker A: Yeah, we. We read this one. It has an introduction to Keith Giffen, and then right away on page nine is a story you'll remember reading that has Matter Eater Lad. In fact.

15:05 Speaker B: Oh, yeah.

15:06 Speaker A: Yes. The Legion of Substitute Heroes special.

15:09 Speaker B: So good.

15:10 Speaker A: Right right up front. Kind of fantastic. Dollar books in the back, but hard to find. I think they have the whole run of the heckler back here. Yeah, it's. Have some Justice League, some Ambush Bug. It's a lot of fun in here. Got a page on the return of the Legion of Super Pets here. Oh, yeah, yeah. Here you go. Look at this.

15:51 Speaker B: Oh, cute. Nice.

15:56 Speaker A: Anyway, yeah. If you are a Keith Giffen fan. Oh, look, there's Pulser Stargate from the Legion of Substitute Heroes on the. The COVID here. See? I don't know what Greg's looking at. He's lost.

16:09 Speaker B: I'm. I was checking something out for my. But for. Based on the tasks you sent me on, I was looking at something.

16:18 Speaker A: Yeah, you'll have to all sorts of things here. This is fun. Anyway, I get lost in this for hours. So we're gonna put that back right there. I believe it.

16:29 Speaker B: The.

16:29 Speaker A: Yeah. And there's a. There's a lot of updates and of course we're going to be at Grit City Show Comic show, Comic Con, Comic show.

16:40 Speaker B: Come see the show. One day. One day only.

16:43 Speaker A: Oh, this is my. Trying to use my Batman one. It's making a mess. One day only on November 7th. You can come hang out with us, meet. Maybe meet James Taylor. He might be there.

16:55 Speaker B: He'll be around. He'll be doing things.

16:59 Speaker A: And of course, some of the other guests, like Scott Collins. I figured out last. Remember when I said I initially. Even though they're completely different, got Scott Kilbush and Scott Collins mixed up. Right, right. Well, it was because Scott Collins was drawing the Legion of Superheroes in the doomed new 52 series. And then Keith Giffen came back on the book with Scott Koblish inking him.

17:24 Speaker B: I see.

17:25 Speaker A: So that does make sense. And that book and the. One of the dooms of that book is it had 9,000 different artists. So you can see where I'd get a little bit confused. But I will definitely be bringing a Legion book for want Mr. Collins to sign packet. And so I'm super excited about that

17:44 Speaker B: and come and see all the folks that are there. There's gonna be a lot of cool, cool people, cool stuff to dig in. Oh, my goodness. It's all show, folks. All show the demon. I don't even know. I don't even know.

18:04 Speaker A: You have to rhyme now.

18:06 Speaker B: I don't want to rhyme. I don't have the time. I'm sorry, Dan, but I use some thyme when I season my food. I'm not in the mood. I don't mean to be.

18:17 Speaker A: So why didn't you just say time? Because it would mean time and time, it would be okay. Time.

18:22 Speaker B: Well, that's true. I don't know what to do when I think about this, I only think of you. I know that sounds so crazy. Boo hoo.

18:33 Speaker A: When you're seasoning a roast, it's time and time again.

18:36 Speaker B: It is time and time again, my friend. That's true. Each and every one till the end. Oh, no. It's like a text that you don't remember to hit send and it just sits there.

18:47 Speaker A: Oh, man. I'm running out of books to put in bags.

18:50 Speaker B: He's running out of books to put into bags. I'm so excited at that point. We can cover the absolute Batman number

18:57 Speaker A: five that we've got. Oh, look, another Legion cover. It.

19:01 Speaker B: Another Legion cover, he says. Is it the same? It's the same. How many Legion covers did they do?

19:08 Speaker A: 5.

19:09 Speaker B: Is it enough for you?

19:12 Speaker A: Probably. 2 would have been enough for me.

19:14 Speaker B: 2 would have been enough for him. But yet he has five. He bought them on a whim. All right.

19:23 Speaker A: Ridiculous.

19:24 Speaker B: Now he says with a grin.

19:29 Speaker A: Why did I get the demon out?

19:31 Speaker B: He got the demon out and now he's gonna pout because I can't let this out.

19:38 Speaker A: This is my fault.

19:39 Speaker B: It's his fault. It's true. It's true. He doesn't even know what he's gonna do.

19:46 Speaker A: All right, now I've got all these stupid plastic things floating around my desk.

19:50 Speaker B: Dan, have you ever seen the show? Brilliant. No, you should watch it. And then. Really?

19:58 Speaker A: Why would I watch a show about me?

20:04 Speaker B: Is it's, it actually. It's really good. It, I mean, and you would actually like it. But it's. It's like if House had face buying this.

20:16 Speaker A: I, I. Why would I watch a show about

20:19 Speaker B: me and was gay.

20:22 Speaker A: Now you're just making up.

20:24 Speaker B: I'm not.

20:27 Speaker A: So the person is face blind.

20:28 Speaker B: He's face blind. Yes. And he's gay and he's very, like, straight. Presenting 1, 2.

20:39 Speaker A: So why would I watch a show about me? This is.

20:41 Speaker B: Watch the show about you and what is it? Zachary Quinto is the. The. It plays. Plays Dr. Wolf. So why would you not want to watch that?

20:53 Speaker A: Sylar slash Spock.

20:55 Speaker B: Yeah, why would you not want to watch that?

20:57 Speaker A: And I probably should watch it.

20:59 Speaker B: But you should. It's really good. And then episode four, I think four or five in season two. You're gonna love it. That's all I have to say.

21:08 Speaker A: Well, I was watching another Spanish soap opera.

21:12 Speaker B: Oh, they, they get in.

21:13 Speaker A: They.

21:13 Speaker B: They do like one of the episodes, I think it might be four is all. Most of it's in Spanish. It's great. And they bring in, like, the new nurse and.

21:22 Speaker A: Well, I'm not watching in Spanish. I'm watching it.

21:24 Speaker B: Oh, no, it's great because they do. They do. It's a bilingual episode and it is super good. And it's back and forth. It's so good. They, they do a lot of translation and stuff like that. And you will love the nurse as well.

21:37 Speaker A: Okay, well, I just finished watching Matlock and the Surgeon.

21:41 Speaker B: It's great. It's Gay's Anatomy.

21:43 Speaker A: He was like, I don't care about your Matlock.

21:46 Speaker B: I don't care. Wait, the new Matlock?

21:48 Speaker A: The new Matlock?

21:49 Speaker B: Yeah. Well, both Matlocks got an ass like a brick.

21:53 Speaker A: No.

21:53 Speaker B: Yes. Have you seen Bobo when she was younger? Boy.

22:00 Speaker A: All right, well, we're moving on to.

22:04 Speaker B: You're like that. That's a lot to unpack.

22:07 Speaker A: There's a lot going on, I think. I still haven't watched Spider man yet.

22:13 Speaker B: You haven't watched the new Spider man or the correct.

22:16 Speaker A: The new one?

22:17 Speaker B: Which one? There's like four or five.

22:19 Speaker A: I don't know, Another home, whatever they're called.

22:21 Speaker B: Spider Man. Spider. Spider man can't find. Spider man can't find. Use ways to get home.

22:28 Speaker A: Can't use waste to get Spider Man's way away from home.

22:33 Speaker B: Spider Man's in a way mode and he can't get home.

22:36 Speaker A: Oh, yeah. It's a good one. I like that one because I.

22:39 Speaker B: There's also Spider man noir, so.

22:42 Speaker A: No. Oh, okay. That's right. No, I have not watched Spider man noir yet. That comes highly recommended from Jiu Jitsu lawyer Paul, though.

22:48 Speaker B: I. I imagine it would. It looks really good. And I. There's. I wish that they had made a second episode or second. Second season if they could, but apparently,

23:03 Speaker A: yeah, I mean, I'm all done with Lanterns, as I said last week, and I'm waiting for you to watch it.

23:07 Speaker B: I, you know, I. Every time I think I have time to watch it or whatever, it doesn't happen.

23:15 Speaker A: So I had too busy doing Mover and Shaker things for Overcast Comics. Yes, True things happen. True publishing happen.

23:30 Speaker B: Yes, yes.

23:31 Speaker A: Are there any announcements that we can share on the show? Starlight's coming soon, right?

23:37 Speaker B: Starlight is coming soon. We have.

23:40 Speaker A: You've got in there and you've shaken up those Publishers. And you've gotten that thing to go to print?

23:46 Speaker B: Yes, we're working on that.

23:47 Speaker A: You laid the hammer down.

23:49 Speaker B: Send signed with a printer and distributor for Said Starlight and other things. So the same way that distributes your comic books that you get right now is going to be carrying ours.

24:05 Speaker A: Wait, so future comic books from Overcast are going to be in, like, the magazine for, like, Lunar?

24:12 Speaker B: Yes, yes, they will be.

24:14 Speaker A: Is that real?

24:16 Speaker B: That is real.

24:17 Speaker A: You mean I'll be able to just get them? I can either get them like on Kickstarter when they come out or.

24:23 Speaker B: Yeah, or you can go to your

24:24 Speaker A: comic shop and Just go to my comic shop and get it once they're ready.

24:27 Speaker B: You can get most everything from the Star from the Overcast comic catalog once we start putting things through. Yes.

24:35 Speaker A: What? Oh, wow. So. So, like, if you do a Kickstarter book, I could back it on Kickstarter and help everything out and get the book going, get all the cool extra things like signatures and stuff like that.

24:45 Speaker B: Yeah.

24:46 Speaker A: But then later on, I could buy the book at a comic shop.

24:51 Speaker B: You could. You could put an order in at the comic shop and go and pick it up, and then you would get that comic book and also get that sales number up for us. But you could also, at the same time, you could say, hey, friend over here that might have never heard of this comic book. Let me give this to you because I think you might enjoy it.

25:13 Speaker A: So I could wait for the Revenge of the Sith and Alex Rain story to come out. Oh, we'll get sued for that. Hang on. Let's try that again. I could wait for. I don't have anything clever now. Like, Alex Rain brings the pain to come out. There we go.

25:35 Speaker B: Let me tell you something, Ric Flair. Alex Reign is bringing the pain. My father was a plot. No. Okay,

25:51 Speaker A: what do we.

25:52 Speaker B: Are you wearing crocodile shoes?

25:54 Speaker A: I'm always wearing crocodile shoes. I hate crocodiles. I would kill them a hundred times and make them into shoes. What do you think?

26:01 Speaker B: You're the longest ride, the oldest ride and the longest line over there, Ric Flair, let me tell you,

26:14 Speaker A: I'm the

26:14 Speaker B: people's choice over here. I'm the voice of the nation. I want to tell you one thing.

26:19 Speaker A: Did you just go from Dusty Rhodes to Superstar Billy Graham there like you transitioned. Are you too sweet to be sour now?

26:27 Speaker B: Like, I'm too sweet to be sour. But I'm gonna tell you one thing.

26:33 Speaker A: You're mixing your wrestlers like this is

26:36 Speaker B: tune in on channel five at nine o' clock at night.

26:38 Speaker A: Channel five on a.

26:41 Speaker B: On a Saturday night.

26:42 Speaker A: Come on. Channel 11.

26:43 Speaker B: Channel 11 on a Saturday or Sunday morning, because Sunday comes faster than you think.

26:55 Speaker A: Will be followed by the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling at midnight and the Powerful Women of wrestling at 12:30. That's right. KSTW. Channel 11.

27:06 Speaker B: Channel 11.

27:09 Speaker A: All right. Well, absolute Batman, yo.

27:13 Speaker B: Hey, that was.

27:14 Speaker A: That's what we call a hard transition.

27:16 Speaker B: Bam. Bam.

27:19 Speaker A: We've got a. We left off with the best comic we've read in months.

27:23 Speaker B: Yes.

27:25 Speaker A: And issue four. Issue four. Tying all of that kid history together and giving us to the place. And we really want to know why Batman took the money. Well, we know why he took the money, but we don't know the repercussions of taking the money. And we're about to find out what happens when you take a million dollars and do things with it?

27:47 Speaker B: If I had a million dollars.

27:51 Speaker A: You would. If you had a billion dollars, you would spend more money than you did during the presidential election because you want to manipulate the outcome so Republicans win so you can keep X going, so you can continue to manipulate the public and think that you're a sane person.

28:09 Speaker B: It's not called X anymore.

28:12 Speaker A: What is it called?

28:13 Speaker B: I don't know. I think they changed the name again.

28:15 Speaker A: It's called Eczema because you just want to get it off of you.

28:18 Speaker B: Oh, gosh. Yeah, you want to put some lotion on it or you get the hose again.

28:25 Speaker A: It is Horror Movie month, folks.

28:27 Speaker B: It is Horror Movie Month.

28:30 Speaker A: I want to watch Ice Cream Man. No, no, don't watch it.

28:35 Speaker B: Don't watch the new Ice Cream Man. That's garbage. Watch the old one with.

28:40 Speaker A: Is the new one AI sloth?

28:42 Speaker B: Yeah, the new one is AI slob.

28:43 Speaker A: That's like 50 AI.

28:46 Speaker B: Don't watch that.

28:46 Speaker A: Go.

28:47 Speaker B: Actually, you have to go watch something else.

28:49 Speaker A: That's like.

28:51 Speaker B: I, I.

28:52 Speaker A: That's why I need the information. I didn't know I was, like, looking for new horror movies.

28:56 Speaker B: I. It's a movie that's, like, off my. Whatever.

29:00 Speaker A: Now, what about the Carrie series?

29:02 Speaker B: How's that carry series? So we're actually going to watch that later because Matthew Lillard is in it, so. And.

29:11 Speaker A: And you like him because.

29:13 Speaker B: Because he's, like, awesome and very nice. And Scream and. Well, yeah, and Hackers and Scooby Doo. He's the best.

29:24 Speaker A: Shaggy, let's forget Scooby Doo.

29:26 Speaker B: What are you talking about?

29:29 Speaker A: Exactly. What am I talking about? Anyway, let's focus on Scream and other great things he was in Screaming.

29:34 Speaker B: Other great things that he's in. I mean, he's been in it. Oh, well, I mean, like, five nights at Freddy's. Fnaf.

29:43 Speaker A: That's fair. Yeah. So he's in carry, huh?

29:45 Speaker B: Yeah, he's in carry.

29:47 Speaker A: I didn't know that.

29:48 Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. So check it out. Give it a watch.

29:51 Speaker A: Still can't believe you haven't seen what's on the back of here, too.

29:54 Speaker B: I know, I know. I. I haven't seen it. I haven't read it.

30:00 Speaker A: I don't.

30:01 Speaker B: I had to go read it.

30:03 Speaker A: I'm sure I can find it.

30:04 Speaker B: See it.

30:04 Speaker A: No, it's on. Watch it. It's on. Matt. Max. It's on. Whatever.

30:08 Speaker B: Oh, it's on. It's on. Okay.

30:10 Speaker A: It's one on one of the three remaining television properties at Para. Whatever. Oh, Mount Max.

30:20 Speaker B: Max mounting. Oh, Max mounting. Wait, is that. Is that. What the. Wait. The little dog from the Grinch?

30:30 Speaker A: Only if he's visiting, like, lady and the Tramp or something.

30:34 Speaker B: Wow, that's a. Where's the Tramp, then?

30:39 Speaker A: You know those dogs.

30:41 Speaker B: That's a weird. This is.

30:43 Speaker A: This got weird.

30:45 Speaker B: You started it, and I just asked a question. You said a thing. I asked a question. This is what happens, people.

30:51 Speaker A: Now you know how there was 101 Dalmatians.

30:54 Speaker B: Holy crap. That makes a lot of sense. I mean, honestly, though, that does. That does beg the question, because, like, I've seen dogs get pregnant, and I didn't know they could have that many dogs, that many puppies, but then again, I guess they could.

31:08 Speaker A: Oh, settle a debate for me, by the way. Okay, it was a minor debate, but I. I articulated that. Jiu Jitsu. Lawyer Paul likes one Halloween movie, and he insists that he does not because he thought I was referring to Jack. O lanterns.

31:25 Speaker B: Okay.

31:27 Speaker A: Or not Jack. He thought I was referring to Jack Skellington. Okay, okay. But I was not referring to the Nightmare Before Christmas.

31:34 Speaker B: Okay.

31:34 Speaker A: I was actually referring to Hocus Pocus.

31:36 Speaker B: Oh, yes.

31:37 Speaker A: Which is indeed a Halloween movie, is it not?

31:39 Speaker B: Yes, definitely.

31:40 Speaker A: Okay, so, jujitsu Lawyer Paul, just for the record, on the podcast, you are incorrect. You do like one Halloween movie. Amok.

31:48 Speaker B: Amok.

31:48 Speaker A: Amok. Amok.

31:49 Speaker B: Oh, yeah, definitely as flat.

31:54 Speaker A: As flat as you could possibly say that.

31:56 Speaker B: Sisters.

31:58 Speaker A: Oh, my gosh, that's a great Halloween movie.

32:01 Speaker B: I cast a spell on you.

32:03 Speaker A: Ah.

32:04 Speaker B: Anyway, I've watched that movie so many times this week because we played at the shop every day 10 times.

32:11 Speaker A: So you're probably tired of it at this point.

32:13 Speaker B: No, actually, I don't think I ever get tired of it. It's one of those movies you can watch a ton of times. It's. No, it's. The second one. I can watch that one probably once a year and be okay with it. It's good. It's good.

32:26 Speaker A: But the original is.

32:27 Speaker B: The original one is just so good. I mean, I might be able to watch the second one a couple times in the year.

32:35 Speaker A: It's. It's like Sister Act. Like Sister Act. The first one.

32:39 Speaker B: The first one, Banger.

32:40 Speaker A: You. I mean, but you can watch the other one because Lauryn Hill's in it. Yeah.

32:44 Speaker B: And. And. And it's great. It. It's. It. It. It is. It is great. But at the same point, it's like you, you know, when you watch Sister Act 1, you're like, oh, it's great. It's like Blues Brothers. You watch Blues Brothers and then you watch.

32:59 Speaker A: No, no, it's not like that at all. It's like Blues Brothers. And then we pretend like the other one does not exist. We don't do that with Sister Act 2.

33:10 Speaker B: That's true. That's true. We. We go, oh, you know, it's time for a yearly watch. Yeah. Because I, I don't. I, I have. I've. I. I can count the number of times on my hand, on one hand in which I've watched the other movie. And my dad actually was around when they filmed the. The other movie, like, was. And met Dan Aykroyd and was like, I'm gonna watch that. And then he watched it and he was like, I. I'm glad I met him. Yeah.

33:39 Speaker A: I mean, can we. Yeah. I. Yeah. The Belushis are not the same.

33:46 Speaker B: They are not the same. I mean, I will give. I will give the. The younger Belushi. Is he younger? I think he's younger. I. I will give the Belushi brother.

34:00 Speaker A: He.

34:00 Speaker B: He did all right in. In. Was it Red Heat?

34:05 Speaker A: Yeah. He needs to do his own things and not do what John Bl. He does.

34:08 Speaker B: Yeah. He doesn't need to fill in for his brother. He needs to just keep doing his own things.

34:13 Speaker A: And, I mean, there's just a lot of cocaine involved in that, and it's.

34:16 Speaker B: Yeah. You gotta. Gotta be on a different level.

34:20 Speaker A: Well, Batman.

34:22 Speaker B: Batman. So speaking of a different level.

34:26 Speaker A: Different Batman.

34:27 Speaker B: Different level.

34:28 Speaker A: Yeah. Batman's getting shots. He's getting his shots, actually.

34:34 Speaker B: Yeah. Well, I just.

34:35 Speaker A: Bruce Wayne. We start off with Bruce Wayne back in the past getting shots after he came out of the bat thing at the zoo and we meet Leslie Tompkins for the first time. Fantastic and then we flip to sadness. Yeah.

34:51 Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I mean, by the way, we do

34:54 Speaker A: have after the fill in artist for one issue, which was still fantastic. To call it fill in at that point is when you have that high quality art. You don't want to even call that fill in.

35:04 Speaker B: But it's just you had. You needed to make a change for that book. You really did. You needed a different feel and.

35:11 Speaker A: Yeah. But we're back to Nick Dragoda's art and Snyder And Nick Dragoda on this book. Frank Martin on colors, Clayton Cowles on letters, and Sabrina Fudge and Katie Kubert on editing. On editing. On editing.

35:27 Speaker B: On editing.

35:27 Speaker A: You ever want me to say you're on editing when you edit a book?

35:31 Speaker B: You know, I mean, sure.

35:34 Speaker A: And we are into The Zoo Part 5. We're wrapping up. We're two more issues. It's the last two issues of the first story arc here in Absolute Batman.

35:46 Speaker B: Oh, absolutely. Great.

35:48 Speaker A: And we get back to the Nick Degreta here because we get to the crazy paneling.

35:53 Speaker B: Oh, right now it is off the wall, but it. But it makes sense. That's the. That's the. The best part, though. It might be crazy. It might be tight and it might be. The page is full of stuff, but it catches the eye and it brings you through all of the stuff. It really draws you.

36:14 Speaker A: Yeah. I think I already showed it, by the way. But I'm gonna pull this other book back out too. Just for funsies. Just to make some noise. We'll talk about Batman for a minute. I just want to pull the other book out on paneling. Have it here. He's doing people the. Yeah. So Batman's writing in on his cycle and the crazy party animal people are all out there ready to kill him and they're unhappy. We get a scene where Commissioner Gordon and Martha Wayne are ready to go back out and face the public and just moving the story along. We get a giant advertisement for dc, all in, which I'm just going to show you because the art looks really cool.

37:04 Speaker B: Fair. Yeah.

37:06 Speaker A: It's a good art. Very different than this book.

37:10 Speaker B: Yes.

37:14 Speaker A: And then we're back at the funeral. And I think that the saddest part of this is Bruce. It's like they. Scott Snyder is doing such a phenomenal job, like tying these points together. And again, it just could be my fault, right. In the past reading his stuff, it could be that I was reading mostly crossovers. I wasn't reading the mainline Batman stuff a lot of the time. I did read a lot of the Batman Stuff, though.

37:40 Speaker B: Yeah.

37:40 Speaker A: Like through. Through new 52. And then I gave up. It's so good. Like, I. Maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention before. I love how he is taking these threads and then wrapping them together.

37:56 Speaker B: Right.

37:57 Speaker A: And here is the perfect example. Right. We. He's at the funeral with his dad. We've already seen him at the trial cussing out Joe, chill. We have seen Gordon's, like, flip relationship with his mom. Right. They're working together on running the city. We go back to, you know, Gordon holding his hand coming out of the zoo. You know, the whole differences in the origin, slightly different. And then we get here to the funeral and we wrap the zoo. And we're gonna see a couple more of those Bat House panels in this, but they're gonna start to go away because we're close. Commissioner Gordon wants to talk to him. He's like, well, they're. Gonna. They're gonna get rid of the zoo. And Bruce is like, well, what are they going to put there? And he's like, yeah, I don't know. I don't think that Bruce Wayne, little Bruce Wayne, wanted the zoo to close. He was so excited. I mean, it's the, you know, the death of the zoo is like the death of his dad. It's like getting gut punched at the funeral.

38:59 Speaker B: Yeah. It's kind of. I. I would say it's kind of like taking the thing that even though it holds a bad memory, it's a memory nonetheless. So you could go back and visit that place. It's facing that. That moment and, and having that connection, and it's kind of bittersweet hearing this news.

39:24 Speaker A: Yeah. And I mean, I get if a mass shooting happens somewhere, you might want to memorialize that place or close it or do something. Yeah, I get that. But, yeah, it's the. It's. It's sad. This is really sad.

39:41 Speaker B: This book so far.

39:42 Speaker A: This book. Other book, Chef's Kiss, but also really good storytelling. This is also really good storytelling. But so far I'm sad. Sad.

39:51 Speaker B: Yeah.

39:51 Speaker A: But sometimes you can't always be happy.

39:53 Speaker B: That's true. You can't. You don't always get what you want, but you always get what you need.

39:59 Speaker A: Is it okay if I have a minor criticism and then you can wrap this back up for me? Do it and tell me why I'm wrong. I'm starting. I'm. I'm starting to feel like on the next page, like maybe if he was the narrator the whole time. Well, he kind of. I think that Alfred. Yeah, well, he is the narrator the whole time. Right. Kind of said. I almost said, he is the narrator the whole time. He's the narrator through the. He revs. He's so, you know, maybe it's not a criticism at all. I don't know. I feel like. I'm starting to feel like as Alfred sort of watches the scene here, as the party animals and Roman Siennis come out of their helicopter and they land it and they're getting ready just to, you know, up the city. Right. That's their whole goal here.

40:47 Speaker B: Yeah.

40:48 Speaker A: I'm starting to feel like Alfred is not a important character.

40:54 Speaker B: He's an active observer.

40:57 Speaker A: Okay. Is that so?

40:59 Speaker B: He's kind of like, tell me how

41:01 Speaker A: this fits, because I. I'm starting to hate Alfred a lot in this book.

41:05 Speaker B: He's somebody who's there. He's. He's watching everything unfold. He's trying to help, but he is limited in his abilities due to his position that we're finding out what that is. Right. So his. He's. He's very capable, but he's also very held back by the ties that bind him to what his job is. His job is to be there to neutralize one person and anything that if need be, and if anything gets in that way, in the. In the way of that. That task, then he may have to do that as well. So. But he's trying to minimize that because he sees the good that those other people don't see. Okay, those actions, but. But him narrating and seeing things. And. And it is frustrating because it's like, dude, you have this. The skills and ability to be so much more than this. And. And you can help. But then again, on the other aspect of it, Bruce, Batman doesn't want the. The. The insights or the. The help. The knowledge that he has at the moment, right? So he's. He's sitting there looking at what Alfred says, and he's like, I don't need you, old man. I've got. I've got all this under control. I've got it. I got it.

42:39 Speaker A: Now we're starting to get to the thread. Thank you for helping me connect that. Because I was having a hard time, right? I'm thinking, like, how they're weaving in these other characters, right, from the general Batman universe, right? Like, I love what they've done with the best friends and the denizens of Gotham, right? Like how. How all of his friends are actually characters in the other universe, but they're weaving them in here. Love what they're doing. With Selina so far. I like what they're doing with his mom. I like what they're doing with Commissioner slash Mayor Gordon. Alfred almost seems like we have to have an Alfred.

43:17 Speaker B: Yeah.

43:19 Speaker A: And so we have an Alfred.

43:21 Speaker B: Well, I mean, like, this could have

43:23 Speaker A: been any generic spy guy.

43:25 Speaker B: Think about this, though. I mean, in. In the Batman, in. In the known Batman universe that you're used to, what purpose does Alfred serve?

43:35 Speaker A: He serves to serve the Wave fam. Wayne family. But they have rewritten the Alfred thing to where he was, like, an MI6 agent and all that in the past. And so disregard.

43:44 Speaker B: Well, I mean, you take that and you put that in there as well. I can't say disregard it, but. But he serves the Wayne family. He helps out Batman, but he's in the background doing things. But Even with the MI6 background, he has that background and knowledge and skill and ability, and he helps usher in these ideas and ways of doing things. Now, this Alfred, he's in the background. He's trying to help, but he's being pushed back on by a kind of upset youth who doesn't want to listen. A little rebellious, little rambunctious who's utilizing and leveraging his friend's knowledge base at this point, and. And the skills and abilities that they have to help him become the thing that he thinks the city needs.

44:42 Speaker A: Okay, so you're selling me well on this. But then we get to a really important page in the entire, like, run of the five pages.

44:50 Speaker B: Yeah.

44:50 Speaker A: And we go from panel to panel. One panel is the current, right? So Batman shows up to fight Roman. And Roman's like, so it's all set. 200 million, anonymous to anonymous. The code of the account was sent this morning. And Bruce is like, I know. I already used it on something. And Roman's like, ha. Amazing. Look at you. And then we get to the panel. They're stood the funeral. And there's a weight. And you hear, bruce, what are you. And he goes and grabs Gordon. And then we flip back, and the money's there again. And Roman's pushing him. He's like, on what? What'd you spend it on? Cars, planes, Bat computers, you know, making fun of him. How much did you use? I have to know. And he said, all of it. And then Gordon, in the past, panel says, bruce, what is it? And Bruce says, I don't want them to knock down the zoo or turn it into something practical. I want something there that makes everyone look like you said something that shines. And we see the money, and we go Back to the present time. And Batman clicks something and he says, want to see how I spent it? And he lights it all on fire and a giant bat flare. And so he didn't take the money. He's good. But he took it from the bad guys. So he, but he didn't spend it. I, I'm okay.

46:32 Speaker B: He set it on fire.

46:34 Speaker A: Yeah, I, I, I, I get it. Right? Like he's, you know. And they say he's like, he pulled the Joker. Yeah, that's one big ugly bat. But then they get reports of, of the Gotham Zoo Memorial Light. So that's what he's doing. So he integrates back again. Snyder again, amazing in this he says, witnesses claim a massive bat made of money. And then Roman yells, party animals. The deal is off. And so then they, then we start a big fight scene where they all attack Batman. So. And then we get a lot of blood and a lot of stabby. Stabby.

47:14 Speaker B: Yeah.

47:15 Speaker A: And I don't want to minimize the art here. It's really good.

47:18 Speaker B: Oh no, it's really good.

47:19 Speaker A: And, and we are onto a fight scene.

47:21 Speaker B: I will say this, like, honestly, when, and not to go back to and, and not to make you feel bad, but like during the unnecessary debates, there was this kid in the audience said

47:36 Speaker A: just one necessary debate hosted by Mike Tanner.

47:42 Speaker B: Yes. Who? Mike Tanner. The Tanner who does what? Who does who. Who is the co. Author of Junior Braves of the Apocalypse and Absolute Zeros and with me and, and host Orcs in Space. Works in Space. And he writes Orcs in Space. And he's like, you know, co author of Horses Base. Yes, yes, yes. But yes. So while we're there, there was this young man who just like wouldn't stop. Like he, like this scene, like, or not this scene, but like as we geared up towards the end of the thing, it was like he just kept grabbing what were imaginary. The imaginary cowl. Like the cowling, you know, like. And he's flipping around and like, yeah, just like. And like I was like, we're getting there, but you have to go on a date first. You have to have dinner before you get to that point.

48:34 Speaker A: Before you get the, you gotta have dinner before you get the cow.

48:38 Speaker B: Before you get the cow.

48:40 Speaker A: You know, Gotta buy me dinner before you get the cow.

48:43 Speaker B: Yeah, you know. Ah, so good. But yes, he is, I mean it's a, it's a lot of hack and slash going on. Bruce is. Or Batman is definitely not. He's, he, he's, he's, he's hurting. Maiming people he's using the. The suit. To all of its extents, it is. It is good.

49:07 Speaker A: But then he realizes something and says to Roman, you don't care how many people die? And Roman's like, nope. And he starts shooting his own people to try to get Batman to protect them. So, Beefy Batman can be trapped by some nets. These must be some awesome nets. That's all I got to say.

49:28 Speaker B: They must be.

49:31 Speaker A: And he grabs Roman's jacket, and we get the tie back to the jiu jitsu thing, and he. Roman grabs his arm and breaks it. Snap. We get a crack.

49:43 Speaker B: Arg.

49:45 Speaker A: If we were doing a Legion comic, we'd have to take a drink there, right? Oh, yeah, yeah.

49:49 Speaker B: I mean, you know, it's.

49:51 Speaker A: You've got a drink. I don't. So tonight. So I was waiting to have my drinks with my. Wonderful.

49:59 Speaker B: With your meal.

50:00 Speaker A: Yes. Beef later. But then they all start going after Batman because he's in there. And they all start stabby stabbing, and they light him on fire. They steal his big ax thing, hit him with it. Badass. Throw him off a roof, and he uses his super cool cape to float down. And. Yeah. And then we get something I'm sure won't ever come up later as Barbara Gordon finds him. And Officer Barbara Gordon. Right. And she lets him go. But she has the cow. She has the cow if she wants it. So there we go. And she doesn't see him. I don't think. She doesn't get a look on his face. Right. He covers up with his arms. Yeah.

50:58 Speaker B: After she hits him with this. With her car.

51:00 Speaker A: Yeah. I have that problem, too. Like when I put my arm next to my head. You can't see it because my biceps are so big.

51:06 Speaker B: Biceps are so big. Yeah. You can hide behind your own video.

51:09 Speaker A: You can see it.

51:10 Speaker B: That.

51:10 Speaker A: I can hide behind my biceps, too, Greg, Can't I?

51:15 Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, I had to put my elbow in front of my face to.

51:18 Speaker A: You can see my glasses.

51:19 Speaker B: Yeah.

51:20 Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. At yoga, they make me do this move. And you're supposed to be able to, like, touch your palms.

51:28 Speaker B: Oh, you can't do that.

51:30 Speaker A: How? How.

51:32 Speaker B: Yeah, no, you can't do that. It's physically impossible.

51:35 Speaker A: It hurt.

51:35 Speaker B: Hurts.

51:36 Speaker A: Get.

51:37 Speaker B: Get tinier, Dan. Get tinier.

51:39 Speaker A: Get tinier.

51:39 Speaker B: Get sinewy.

51:41 Speaker A: Yeah.

51:41 Speaker B: I need to get less Grimbor.

51:44 Speaker A: I have to get my Lululemon pants on and stuff.

51:48 Speaker B: Get less Grimoire.

51:50 Speaker A: Get less. Be less Grimbore. Yeah. I deliberately now, at yoga, position myself next to the bigger guys. Well, yeah. So I can see what they can't do as well.

52:01 Speaker B: Oh, that's nice.

52:02 Speaker A: Yeah, it makes me feel better. Yeah.

52:06 Speaker B: Feel safer?

52:07 Speaker A: Uh, no, but it is. It's kind of frustrating to see like I'm doing. So you gotta think about it, like when I do the hot yoga, kind of like Batman here. Yeah. Doing all. I don't have any ACL in my knee and I'm. We're doing like all standing poses for like the first 35, 40 minutes.

52:27 Speaker B: Right.

52:28 Speaker A: Like balancing on a leg and stuff. Well, I'm balancing 200 pounds on a leg. I look over and this like 108 pound woman is like stretching her leg out all the way and pulling it out and balancing £108 on one leg. And I'm like, you know, I have to do a lot of work to stay up here. Like, just staying up here is a lot of work. There's a lot to carry. Yeah. It's a little bit different now. I will say there is somebody who has trained at jujitsu lawyer Paul's gym.

53:01 Speaker B: Yeah.

53:02 Speaker A: His name is the vegan legend.

53:04 Speaker B: Oh, the vegan legend.

53:06 Speaker A: Oh, yes. In fact, I just saw a post on Instagram where his new baby is strapped to his chest and he's doing pull ups.

53:15 Speaker B: Oh my gosh, that's. And he's doing the whole thing and he's like getting it up.

53:22 Speaker A: Oh, yeah, he's doing like pull up. He's just doing pull ups with the baby like there. Yeah.

53:26 Speaker B: Like so just, just thanks a lot for making everyone else feel inferior. Vegan legend. Yeah, well, Andy's a vegan and he's a vegan people.

53:37 Speaker A: So he would just say, I'm whining right now.

53:40 Speaker B: He's plant power.

53:42 Speaker A: He would just say train more and quit whining. So I will do that. But yeah, I mean, it's just.

53:48 Speaker B: I'm just trying to get. I'm just trying to get closer to the blue zone, Dan.

53:52 Speaker A: Just trying to get place you could. But where we don't want, I think is train like Batman. Because Batman trains by like stumbling into things, getting shot, stabbed, and then going into the sewer.

54:03 Speaker B: Yeah, well, I mean, I live in the sewer, so like a turtle.

54:07 Speaker A: Yeah, well, I live in my basement, so that's pretty close to the sword.

54:10 Speaker B: And you're a turtle too. Which turtle are you? Well, you're Michelangelo.

54:19 Speaker A: I was not going to say that. You're Michelangelo. That leaves one of the other ones for me. I'm probably Raphael.

54:31 Speaker B: I knew it. I knew it. I was gonna say you're Raphael. You're Raphael.

54:36 Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, I, I think that's pretty standard.

54:40 Speaker B: Nobody wants, I mean, nobody wants to be Leonardo.

54:43 Speaker A: And, and what's wrong with being Leonardo?

54:46 Speaker B: What, you want to be Leonardo?

54:48 Speaker A: No, what's wrong with being him?

54:49 Speaker B: Nothing's wrong with him. It's just like. I mean, it's just a lot of, like, you know, a lot of weight. But then, you know, Donatello, I mean, it's just like lots of pack.

55:05 Speaker A: Well, anyway, Roman is very happy that he's taking over the city. And he's like, hey, Gotham. And he tells this terrible story about shooting pigs in the head with, with these guns and, and on a farm and like hitting their nerve center. And I guess what he's trying to making them really happy. And I think what he's trying to say is, Gotham, we're going to destroy you. Just lay back and accept it. Is that, is that fair? That's what's going on.

55:38 Speaker B: Yeah.

55:39 Speaker A: Okay. And then we get Batman in the Bat cave, but I don't know where the Batcave is. I guess it's in the Shores. It's in the Shores, but we find the giant Batmobile. The little Batmobile. We don't have the motorcycle because he just used it. Yeah, we've got Batman and he. I think he's not very good at first aid because he's sewing himself up over here, but he has like a thousand band aids on. Yeah, he definitely needs a better first aid kit if he's going to keep doing this. I mean, I don't want to be judgmental on the 2,200 million. And I'm glad he didn't spend it and he lit on fire, but I think he should have spent like a thousand dollars on like some medical supplies and then burnt up the thing that could.

56:27 Speaker B: Yeah, that would have been smart. It had been smart. Or you know, maybe like an on call doctor maybe, because I don't think that's in his friend's group. I mean, he's got, he's got smart guy, he's got lawyer guy. He's got.

56:41 Speaker A: There he is doing blood transfusions.

56:43 Speaker B: Oh, so maybe he's doctor guy. But he needs it. He needs, he needs doctor person. He needs, he needs, he needs a house or a wolf or like, you know, one of the brothers from whatever that show is where they, they live on the Hamptons.

57:01 Speaker A: And then Alfred comes back and is like, alfred, I'm not going to pat you up. I'm not going to help you. I'm not doing anything for you. So you, Alfred and then down here, we get another one of the. The things from the zoo. It says, bats are highly infectious.

57:16 Speaker B: Oh, my goodness.

57:19 Speaker A: And I just. I mean, I love how it tied this together. And then we're at the end of the. This issue because the mayors, the mayor and the deputy mayor are standing there, and all of a sudden these boxes drop out of the sky and everybody starts grabbing masks like they're in one of the Purge movies. And we get a preview for Zatanna, which I didn't buy, so I don't know if it's good. And Jamal Campbell wrote it and drew it, so it's probably really good.

57:53 Speaker B: It probably is. It looks. I mean, the. The artwork like what we see right here. It looks really good. Satan is pretty good book. I mean, so.

58:04 Speaker A: But I did not buy it, so. Yeah, I mean, this.

58:11 Speaker B: I.

58:12 Speaker A: Well, when I was reading this, even though I've read it before, I immediately went and started reading number six again,

58:18 Speaker B: because, of course, you would have to, because you know what happens next. Got the end. Like, the Purge and what's going on?

58:27 Speaker A: I was just going to pull. I really love what's going on with the art at dc. You've got the square paneling there. I was going to pull Grimbor back out for a second because Travis Web saw this page earlier.

58:41 Speaker B: Yeah.

58:42 Speaker A: Actually, I showed Travis, say. Well, first I showed Travis just the Grimbor at the bottom, and then he was, of course, like, oh, obscure Legion reference. And then he goes. Then he sent me a message, said, please show me the whole page because I want to see the paneling in that book so I get inspired again. That's what he said. Yeah. I just think the panel. The circular paneling in here looks good.

59:05 Speaker B: Oh, my. I know. Like, when I tried to blow up the picture that you sent me, and I was like, oh, my gosh, this is so good.

59:13 Speaker A: But then I had another friend I sent it to looked at it and said, how do I read that?

59:20 Speaker B: So obviously they don't.

59:21 Speaker A: And I. I said. I said, top, middle, bottom. When I wrote. I said. I said top, middle, bottom. Just like, grim. Oh, wait, I didn't say that.

59:32 Speaker B: I. Yeah, totally. Because, like, I mean. I mean, that is. That makes sense. You got to read.

59:39 Speaker A: But I said, top, top, middle, bottom. Like, it's really easy to read. Like, I didn't find it hard to read at all. But I was reading the book through, and there's another page here with the circular panels with Matter Eater Lad with Tenzel talking. And I find the layouts in this book to be incredibly beautiful and the layouts in this book to be beautiful. This Hayden Sherman art. But even when we get, like, a whole page like this with these angular panels at the bottom, like, just check out that.

01:00:14 Speaker B: Yeah, it's pretty cool.

01:00:18 Speaker A: It's.

01:00:18 Speaker B: It's. It's not.

01:00:20 Speaker A: They're putting out good stuff.

01:00:22 Speaker B: I will say this. And.

01:00:23 Speaker A: And.

01:00:23 Speaker B: And this is like, people take from things, inspiration from other things, and this is a good thing, generally speaking. And not to say this is like a animification, but, like, you get a lot of this type of paneling look in a manga. And it's, you know, it's. It's. It's cool. It's very dynamic. It's very interesting. You know, the way that. That, that looks. It's stacked in a different way. It draws you in and makes you think while you're reading it.

01:01:02 Speaker A: One, if it was traditional comic art, I probably wouldn't like it laid out that way.

01:01:07 Speaker B: Right.

01:01:08 Speaker A: But the way I do feel like Sherman and Dragoda both do a really good job of a blended style.

01:01:15 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:01:16 Speaker A: And then you're, you know, looking at it. I mean, just happen to have the old Giffen stuff here.

01:01:22 Speaker B: Right.

01:01:24 Speaker A: And this was completely accidental. That. Not that it was out, but the Giffen stuff's interesting because Giffen loved to do lots of panels too. Yeah. But Giffen loved to do, like, the 12 panel and nine panel grids. Right. And tell a lot of story and. But he also really focused on facial expressions. Right. And angles and things like that where a different form of storytelling. Right.

01:01:50 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:01:51 Speaker A: And nothing's wrong with either one. Right. They're both.

01:01:54 Speaker B: They're both really good.

01:01:56 Speaker A: They're both fun ways to tell a story.

01:01:58 Speaker B: I. I will say this too. And. And there's something I saw with the.

01:02:02 Speaker A: Always talk about the Legion 9 panel grids that were after Watchmen. Happen to be in this book.

01:02:09 Speaker B: Yeah. But like in the coloring, too, like, who's the colorist in. In the books that you just showed that were new? Because that's also important in key. Because one of the things.

01:02:22 Speaker A: Frank Martin, on this one. Let me grab the Legion colorist for you.

01:02:25 Speaker B: Okay. Because with one of the things that Travis and I were talking about is like, you can have somebody draw something, and then you can have somebody color it in, and it's a hundred percent different because the way that somebody draws it looks one way, and then the way somebody colors it makes it just stand out a hundred better or 100. You know, like, it just looks like a different image altogether. It Just brings a different life to it. And I guarantee you the line work is. Is. Is great, but the way that it's colored, it really stands out, and it really pops off that page and makes you just want to know.

01:03:12 Speaker A: The colorist in this one is Tamra Bonvillin.

01:03:16 Speaker B: Okay.

01:03:17 Speaker A: So organization. That's.

01:03:20 Speaker B: That's somebody.

01:03:20 Speaker A: It's spelled like villain.

01:03:22 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:03:23 Speaker A: Yeah.

01:03:23 Speaker B: But that's somebody that I'm gonna probably be keeping an eye out for, because I like the way that they make the. The art just pop off the page.

01:03:33 Speaker A: And his materader lad ever looked cooler than right there?

01:03:36 Speaker B: No, that, like, again, that is like, I. Looking at that page, it just. The whole thing just looks so good. You know, you've seen other books where, you know, it's just like, boom, boom, boom. Okay, that's. I'm following the story. I'm going through the panels, and you open up that page spread, and I'm like, what the hell is going on?

01:04:00 Speaker A: Well, I'm gonna pull it just because I have this here too. I'm gonna pull another callback thing.

01:04:05 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:04:05 Speaker A: Because Giffen like to put these. Because now sometimes I think this was a criticism of his because he couldn't get enough story in the regular book. Right. He put these in the back of the book.

01:04:18 Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Just to give you huge.

01:04:21 Speaker A: More text pieces.

01:04:22 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:04:23 Speaker A: One in this case, to give some context. This was the first issue of Volume 4 of Legion, and it was set five years later in the future from the previous issue. Previous series. Right. So they're trying to give you some backstory. Right. Because you're.

01:04:35 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:04:35 Speaker A: You're just jumping in as if you. But you've missed the last fight. You don't know what's happened. Right. So he's giving you these. But I love this here because they pay homage to that on the very first page of this book. But they do it in a completely different way. And the coloring and everything. Check this out. Is that not fun?

01:04:57 Speaker B: Oh, that is super fun. And I mean modern time wise. Okay. That looks like something if you're jumping through, like, anything that you're looking at in today's lens is familiar enough to be like, okay, I get it.

01:05:18 Speaker A: And the words here actually are words, Right. They're not just. I now would have been kind of cool if they put in interlock, and nobody would have been able to read it, but I would have had to sit here and translate the whole thing. So I'm kind of glad they didn't buy it.

01:05:32 Speaker B: But you would have. That's the Thing I would have.

01:05:35 Speaker A: But they're talking about, like, this is the part where they were talking about. Bismolians have evolved with deadly ability to eat and process all forms of matter. Their teeth can chew through nearly all matter known to the United Planet. They are extremely fast and agile. So they're telling you about the characters in this. Right. But also giving you that feel to the old book.

01:05:55 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:05:55 Speaker A: And then this side is kind of fun because it's listing, like, all the alien races over here.

01:06:00 Speaker B: But it looks like you're looking at an updated Wikipedia, though. I mean, it looks cool. It looks cool as hell. People, like, don't sleep on this.

01:06:09 Speaker A: But I've just. It's. There's just a lot of. Of just. You point out, sometimes I don't always have the brand new books next to me. And there's a lot of fun stuff going on. There's fun stuff at Marvel, too. I mean, unfortunately, I can't grab Gail's book out of here because it came a couple weeks ago because both issues were there. And I don't have one of her. I don't have one of the X Men books in here, but I'm enjoying those as well. But I. I think there's a lot of creativity gone going on. I guess, you know, a lot of times we talk about older comics, but I. I just want to make a pitch here at that toward the end is don't sleep on some of these new books. Yeah. I can go out and get old stuff, too, and love it.

01:06:47 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:06:48 Speaker A: And, you know, I mostly bought this because it's a tribute to Keith Giffen, but it's. I have all sorts of stuff that I'm reading all the time, but then, you know, don't sleep on these new books. And I think, Greg, you made a really good point that, you know, this art is a combination of classic. The Hayden Sherman stuff and the Nick Dragoda stuff. Kind of a combination of a classic art style with the manga style. Right?

01:07:13 Speaker B: Yeah. And it's kind of what the. Like the kids today.

01:07:18 Speaker A: The kids today.

01:07:19 Speaker B: The kids today are used to or they're. They're. They're accustomed to, in a sense.

01:07:24 Speaker A: Right.

01:07:24 Speaker B: Because if they're. If you're. If you're trying to draw in new readers and they're used to seeing stuff that is put up on any type of. I want to say there's a multitude of comic outlets out there for. For people, and a majority of the folks that are coming out of art school are trained in various types of school of very Various types of art. But manga is definitely very prevalent, very, very popular. And they're seeing a lot of comics that are done in that way. And if you want to see. If you want to see those. Those same readers cross over from the types of comics that they're accustomed to to something that's more, I want to say, like, mainstream and other things. Put it out there in a. In a way that they're gonna be drawn into it and give them something that they can go, oh, this is something that I'm familiar enough with in. In an art style that I understand that I like. And. Oh, what is. How did it. Why did he do this? Oh, okay. And makes them really think and makes them appreciate it.

01:08:46 Speaker A: And I will say it's interesting because when I looked at this here and in the action poses in the way that that story is written and all the paneling. I love this.

01:08:54 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:08:55 Speaker A: I'm gonna say. I don't know. When I, I, I asked. When we were at summercon, I asked Randy why I didn't like the figures that were out, because all we just had were the, Just the, The. The figure drawing. Right. We didn't have it all in the book. Right. So all in the book. I don't know that I like this Static.

01:09:15 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:09:16 Speaker A: I don't know if that static is my favorite.

01:09:18 Speaker B: Right, Right.

01:09:19 Speaker A: Just that character design and a static form. But when it's integrated into stories, with the paneling and how they're telling stories and it's all moving together. I'm not saying I dislike this. I'm just saying I don't know that that's my favorite. Right, Right. But when I look at it in here and it's all drawn together, it's absolutely great. And I will say, I hung up my Legion. I got my comic shop sent me the Legion promo poster. So I have it hanging up in the house. And I will say three different people have looked at it and commented on how great it looks.

01:09:49 Speaker B: Hey, there you go.

01:09:51 Speaker A: And that's what you're saying, right. Like, it's not about what I liked in 1984.

01:09:56 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:09:57 Speaker A: But it's what's about where the industry is now and what art is there. And I guess if you're holding on to some sort of weird past where you're just going to hate on everything, then it's probably not going to work for you.

01:10:07 Speaker B: But you got to move forward, people. And. And I will say, though, like, that Lesion book has a. It's very akin to that. That cover that you just Showed for the listeners, for the viewers out there, they saw it. But for the listeners, it looks like something that just popped off a comic book, but with banging colors. I mean, why would you not want to buy that Legion book? Why would you not want to see what's inside? And. And if you're familiar with comic books, they didn't have colors. So, I mean, you're gonna want to buy this book, and you're gonna want to check out this Legion book and see what's inside, because it's a damn Easter egg. And when Dan shows me pictures, he's. He's. He spammed me with text messages a couple times, and between Travis and I. And Travis will message me back, like, what the hell is going on with these books? So, I mean, it's. It's like, okay, I. Yeah, this is. This is good stuff.

01:11:08 Speaker A: Well, and I will remind everybody that, you know, all of the. Not all of them, but there was a large group of Legion fans in the early 1990s, late 80s bitching about Keith Giffen's art, too.

01:11:23 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:11:24 Speaker A: Right. And saying how terrible and ugly this is.

01:11:27 Speaker B: Oh, but it. But it's akin to that, too. So, I mean, come on, people. I mean, and it's where we're.

01:11:35 Speaker A: We.

01:11:35 Speaker B: It's circular. It's a. It's like a clock. It all comes back around to 12 again. So we.

01:11:42 Speaker A: Well, I dare somebody to walk up to Simon Bisley and tell him that this is ugly. So.

01:11:46 Speaker B: Well, he'll tell you to piss off. That's what he'll tell you.

01:11:51 Speaker A: If you don't like it, why did you come here?

01:11:53 Speaker B: Why'd you come to tell me this?

01:11:57 Speaker A: He's for.

01:11:58 Speaker B: For. For the gruffest guy. I mean, and honestly, for somebody who draws that character guy, I mean, he is. He is exactly who you imagine drawing that character.

01:12:10 Speaker A: Yep.

01:12:11 Speaker B: And it is exactly the interaction I imagine, was the best and maybe definitely, like, top tier of most interactions out there.

01:12:28 Speaker A: Well, and I'll. I'll apologize ahead of time. I. I think we were. We were funny the last couple weeks. I don't know if we were funny as this week, but I. I just. The book's really enjoyable, and hopefully you had fun with us down this little comic book comparison, too, because I wanted to. It's kind of fun to have the new books out.

01:12:46 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:12:46 Speaker A: And it's fun to look at the art and not just limit ourselves by being in the past. Right. Like, being. I feel like I'm like a therapist now, but, you know, center yourself not just in the Past, but in the present. That doesn't mean I can't go back and watch the live stream of WWCW Wrestling on YouTube when I'm going to sleep at night. But tell me how I should also enjoy the things option. Do you feel Only you can choose

01:13:15 Speaker B: how you feel as I unpack this feeling.

01:13:18 Speaker A: I can't define how you feel.

01:13:21 Speaker B: I'm feeling pretty good.

01:13:22 Speaker A: Yeah. I'm not falling into this trap.

01:13:25 Speaker B: You're not falling. It's not a trap, Dan.

01:13:27 Speaker A: Oh, yeah, you're caught in a trap. You can't walk out.

01:13:31 Speaker B: You're not in trap, Dan. Roll again.

01:13:34 Speaker A: Because Grimbor loves you too much, baby.

01:13:36 Speaker B: Grimbor loves you too much, baby. You can't fall into the trap that you're already in.

01:13:41 Speaker A: I mean, Daddy Grimbor hitting on Rock Crin is Grim Boar with his. Whoa. That.

01:13:47 Speaker B: The hand on the hands. Touching hands.

01:13:51 Speaker A: Hey, buddy, you play Magno Ball? That's right. You did.

01:13:55 Speaker B: I was like, damn, dude. I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy can get you off the planet, if you know what I mean.

01:14:01 Speaker A: Yeah, I always. I always thought Grimbor made more sense for Grimbor to like boys than like, karma or whatever her name was in the Legion war. Well, on that note, got game. On that note, obviously, we've mentioned Jiu Jitsu lawyer Paul on the podcast. If you need some legal help, I don't have the phone number ready, so I don't know why I started this promo at all.

01:14:24 Speaker B: He doesn't have the phone number ready, people. You always had to have the phone number ready.

01:14:28 Speaker A: I had to restart my computer before the podcast started.

01:14:31 Speaker B: You want to call Jiu Jitsu lure, Paul, we need to have the phone number for you to call. Yeah, I need the number, Dan.

01:14:38 Speaker A: Well, the number is.

01:14:40 Speaker B: Wow.

01:14:41 Speaker A: The number is 253-656-4475. And if you need some legal help, you can talk to the wonderful Kelly on the phone, and she will connect you with Paul. And if Paul can't help you, he'll connect you with somebody that can.

01:14:56 Speaker B: If I'm a young man trying to get off planet. But Grimbor is trying to persuade.

01:15:02 Speaker A: If Grimbor is making your job intolerable.

01:15:06 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:15:06 Speaker A: He's creating a sexual hostile environment at your job. That's a good time to call Jiu Jitsu Rapal. He probably would represent you in that case.

01:15:14 Speaker B: Good, good. Because, I mean. I mean, it's not happening to me, but maybe somebody.

01:15:19 Speaker A: Somebody at your work keeps wrapping you with chains. And you've told them no many times.

01:15:23 Speaker B: Many Times.

01:15:23 Speaker A: That is. That is. That is the time to take care

01:15:26 Speaker B: of uncomfortable and unfortunate.

01:15:29 Speaker A: Yeah.

01:15:29 Speaker B: They don't like it.

01:15:30 Speaker A: It's a bad situation, so.

01:15:33 Speaker B: Bad situation.

01:15:33 Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, for example, if you happen to be at the Retro Emporium on Meager street in Kent, Washington, where you can relive your childhood.

01:15:42 Speaker B: Yeah.

01:15:42 Speaker A: And you could visit them on Instagram or Facebook and see the wonderful posts that Ann Smith puts out. But if you knew that somebody had put chains on the Squatcher man and locked him in the back, back by the old stock, and you knew it was Greg, that would be the time. That would be the time to reach out to jujitsu lawyer Paul.

01:16:05 Speaker B: This man is living his best life

01:16:07 Speaker A: right now out on a farm. You sent him to a farm in.

01:16:10 Speaker B: No, he's. He's visiting the Yetis, his cousins in. In. In. He's. He's out there in the Himalayas.

01:16:19 Speaker A: In the Himalayas.

01:16:20 Speaker B: Picking up the pink salt. Yeah. Himalayan.

01:16:24 Speaker A: Okay.

01:16:24 Speaker B: The Yetis.

01:16:25 Speaker A: Yeah. We know what's happened. And of course, in addition to the Retro Emporium, and we are going to be at Grit City Comic con on the 7th. It'll be Greg I and one Mr. Tanner. Will Brett be there?

01:16:39 Speaker B: Change match. Cage match. Cage match?

01:16:40 Speaker A: No, there's gonna be no cage match.

01:16:42 Speaker B: I. I don't know. I. I think. I think Mr. Taylor said there might be a cage he could bring.

01:16:48 Speaker A: He said that. But Mr. Tanner has sworn off wrestling on social media, so there will be none of that.

01:16:54 Speaker B: Oh, no. Okay. Yeah. And. And there will be no Brett. Brett is not available for this this time around. So.

01:17:00 Speaker A: Okay.
